The Evidence Behind Creative Health
Change within the health system is not possible without the buy-in of members of the public. This TEDx talk explores how the arts can improve physical and mental health, how engaging in creative activities can help you live longer, and how everybody is an artist.
Jane Hearst is the Research and Policy Manager at the National Centre for Creative Health (NCCH) in the UK, where she advocates for the role of arts and creativity in healthcare. Her work involves responding to NHS and Government evidence calls and supporting health systems in developing research based strategies.
In this talk, she explores the evidence behind Creative Health and asks a simple but important question: if creativity can help us stay well, why do we so rarely think of it as part of our health toolkit? Combining research, storytelling and a challenge to rethink what counts as a health behaviour. Bringing the conversation to a wider public is important, because "Without you, the culture of health will not change."
